Children’s Dentistry

Our doctors strive to make children of all ages feel at ease and enjoy their visits, so bring the entire family! You can rest assured your child will receive the latest advances in children’s dentistry, delivered with caring and thoughtfulness. We encourage proper dental care habits in children and enjoy educating them about how to keep their teeth healthy for a
lifetime. We look forward to meeting them for their first dental visit when they are eight months old and watching them develop each year.

One of our goals is to ensure that current and future generations of children grow up without any dental anxieties. According to our many happy parents, we are successfully doing just that! Our office is a relaxed and cheerful place children love to visit. Whether you have an active seven-year-old or a frightened three-year-old, we are here to help.

Developing good habits at a young age, in an environment that’s comfortable and fun, is important for a lifetime of good oral health.

Children’s teeth can be susceptible to cavities at an early age due to many issues. They are unable to brush teeth well on their own. For this reason, it is important for parents to be involved in their child’s daily brushing. This ensures both thorough cleaning and a development of good dental habits.

Younger kids tend to eat more often during the day (grazing). This leads to prolonged acid exposure (every time you eat acid is created), which may lead to more cavities. Teeth that are not as clean as they should be encourage additional acid production, which often accelerates cavity development. The good news is that improving poor dietary and hygiene habits, along with a fluoride varnish application to the mineralizing teeth, can substantially lower the chance of your child getting a cavity.

We realize children often don’t do a good job of brushing their teeth. This even applies to adults! Even careful brushing may not reach the deep grooves in the back teeth. This results in bacteria, acid, and plaque formation, which can lead to decay. And once the tooth has decay, it has permanent damage and will need a filling or crown.

What if there was a way to help prevent all this from happening in the first place? Fortunately, there is! An application of dental sealant will do the trick.

Here’s how dental sealants work:

  1. Teeth are cleaned and sterilized.
  2. A thin plastic coating is applied. This is usually white or clear in color.
  3. A curing light is applied to the sealant to bond it into place.

The entire process takes just a few minutes. There are no shots or drilling or removal of tooth structure. It’s totally painless. Applying dental sealants is an excellent option for
both children and adolescents to preserve their natural teeth!
